In our world, our people matter to us. The things they’ve been through and the moments of triumph as well as sadness. These moments inspire us, individually and as an organization towards greater meaning in life, and developing deeper bonds with one another. A very special womanworks at fire + wine daily. She recently lost a close friend to cancer, having spent almost every day with him and his family at CDH.
It’s interesting to reflect back on times of hardship and remember the little (and significant) things that captured your attention. One of the things that captured Sandy’s, was watching the Ronald McDonald House being built across the street, during the time her friend Jim, fought his battle. While Jim lost his battle, a not-for-profit establishment sprung up before her eyes designed specifically to support family members dealing with their loved one’s battles. When Ronald McDonald House asked us for a one-time donation and having known Sandy’s backstory, we felt we could go a little further.
We’ve since become a partner of RMH (in Winfield near Central DuPage Hospital), and they will send a family to us each month that we can treat to a full evening at fire + wine. We realize the difficulties (both emotional and financial) that families go through when confronting serious illness. Our hope is to create a stress free evening of normalcy during a whirlwind time of anything but normal. We’re excited to meet and treat our first RMH family.
You can help too… There are tons of ways our surrounding communities can give back….new books, crafts, movies, a home cooked, delivered meal, and even donating games for the families who stay at RMH for days on end. Click either photo to the right to learn more about the Ronald McDonald House.
